Annotation description:By application of cryoimmunogold labelling on rat cerebellum sections, Koh et al demonstrate that HPC-1 is localized on plasma membrane and synaptic vesicles of presynaptic boutons which form synapses with Purkenje cells (Fig. 3 and Fig. 11).

Additional literature:Miya et al demonstrate the localization of syntaxin -1 to presynaptic nerve terminal plasma membrane and SVs (fig. 4) by immunoelectron microscopy. @ PMID:9078410

The authors demonstrate that major pool of syntaxin 1 recycle with synaptic vesicles (SVs). However, immunoisolation of SVs with synaptophysin and syntaxin 1 specific antibodies show that most of the SVs contain syntaxin 1, but also that syntaxin 1 beads could isolate also the most of Na/K ATPase-positive membrane fragments from the initial material (Fig. 4). This data suggests indirectly that syntaxin 1 is also localized to nerve terminal plasma membrane. @ PMID:7860636

Bennett shows biochemically that syntaxin-1 is membrane bound protein from presynaptic release sites. @ PMID:1321498
