- The authors state that the antibody does not distinguish between GluD1 and GluD2. Howerver, for other reasons the authors conclude that the staining in the figures represent GluD2 protein:

"The antibody used here recognizes the δ1 receptor as well as the δ2 receptor (Mayat et al., 1995). To assess the extent to which the δ1 receptor had contributed to the present pattern of immunolabeling, we processed the cerebellar sections together with hippocampal sections from the same animals. In situhybridization analyses have shown that, although the hippocampus does not contain detectable levels of δ2 subunit mRNA (Araki et al., 1993;Lomeli et al., 1993), it is the brain structure that is richest in δ1 mRNA (Lomeli et al., 1993). The very weak labeling obtained by the δ receptor antibody in synapses of coprocessed hippocampal sections suggests that the labeling in the cerebellum is attributable primarily to the presence of the δ2 receptor. This would agree with previous observations based on other approaches (Mayat et al., 1995). In the remaining Discussion, the labeling will be considered to reflect the δ2 receptor distribution."

I allow annotation to GluD2 protein based on author and expert intent.
