Annotation description:Figure 10, 11: Analysis of the subcellular distribution of L-type Cav1.3 (α1D subunit) calcium channels in hippocampal tissue using a pre-embedding immunogold labelling method revealed postsynaptic expression profiles. Membrane-bound gold was found in association with the postsynaptic density and also at extra-synaptic sites. Immunogold found in association with the PSD was usually located towards the edge of the PSD (Fig. 11A-C).

Figure 12: Analysis of the ratio of membrane-bound labelling versus intra-cellular labelling (Fig. 12B) revealed that the proportion of gold bound to the plasma membrane compared to cytoplasmic-bound gold was significantly higher (P<0.05, Bonferroni post hoc comparison) in dendrites smaller than 0.5 μm. The ratio of membrane-bound gold versus cytoplasm-located gold was 3.5 times higher in dendrites with diameters <0.5 μm compared to dendrites >0.5 μm in diameter.

Figure 1, 2: The antibody used is specific against CACNA1D and was verified by the inclusion of preadsorbed antigen during the immunogold labelling protocol.

The term "integral component..." was used as the protein has transmembrane domains (For reference, see Uniprot ID P27732 )
