Annotation description:The authors investigated a transgenic mouse line expressing Neurexin 1-alpha with an extracellular HRP tag. Functionality of this transgene was shown by rescue of Neurexin triple KO phenotypes in Zhang et al. J Neurosci. 2005, 25:4330-42. PMID: 15858059

Fig. 4 shows that Neurexin 1-alpha labeling was observed mainly in the ER and at presynaptic terminals. Labeling included the presynaptic plasma membrane but was also present at presynaptic vesicular structures.

Additional literature:This paper shows in young mice, using immunoEM with a pan-neurexin antibody against all isoforms, that neurexins exhibit presynaptic localization, and also were found at postsynaptic sites. This approach did not allow to distinguish between Neurexin isoforms.
Note that Fairless et al. (2008) PMID 19036990 did not observe a postsynaptic localization for Neurexin 1-alpha. @ PMID:17360903
