| Annotation description: | Fig 2: Proprioceptive sensory neurons that synapse onto motor neurons in the spinal cord receive axo-axonic inputs from GABAergic inhibitory interneurons or GABApre neurons. Loss of NB-2 resulted in a decrease of GABApre boutons onto sensory presynapses. 12/10/2017 Pim - The study uses a general Contactin-5/NB-2 KO making the site of action (pre/postsynaptic) unclear. However, in Fig.1 the authors show that Contactin-5/NB-2 is only expressed by proprioceptive sensory neurons and not by motorneurons. The site of action or Contactin-5/NB-2 in synapse organization must therefore be presynaptic. In Fig.2 a positive correlational relationship between level of presynaptic Contactin-5/NB-2 expression and the number of boutons in line with this idea. |
